Cisco Momentum Design Team

My main job at Cisco was to work as a part of the Momentum Design System team to implement, document and maintain a complex set of components for use by designers and developers all across Cisco's deisgn org.

A System For Everyone

Group-436-2

Since this system was to be used by hundreds of designers, it needed to be robust, informative and flexible. We created and documented a large amount of components, patterns and guidelines to make sure that using the system was a helpful part of the design process rather than a hindrance.

Documentation

A large part of the work I did was documentation. This involved creating simple graphics to show the structure of each component for developer use, listing out differences for each state of interactive components, and writing out usage guidelines for more complex patterns like cards.

Creating New Components

One of the projects I completed during my time on the Momentum team was implementing a card component that leveraged features that were needed by several different products. This involved a hefty amount of research and brainstorming. Below is a solo whiteboard session I completed to sort out my thoughts on how to seamlessly combine a large amount of features without needing too many variations.

Shown here is part of the component set that I ultimately created to allow desingers to create cards with a large set of variations while still staying consistent.

Updating Designs to Better Use the System

Since many of our products were already using some variation of the components we were implementing, we needed to leverage designer feedback to create components that would still fit comfortably into the products that would need to use them. Shown here is my updated version of a toast component based on feedback from the Webex team.

Another part of my job was using the system to update existing designs in the Webex product suite. This design is a GSS maintenence calendar that I updated using system components to be easier to use.

Some of the updates I did were purely visual design updates using the system. This is an example of a clean up I did to improve the readability of this eacosystem sales page.
